ICTDAR launched three community access centers under AjialCom project in Yemen. The 3 centers are in Taiz, Mukalla, and Al-Hudaida, and the project is a partnership between ICTDAR, UNDP Yemen, Microsoft, and the National Youth Center. The launch took place in Taiz on September 7th 2006, in the presence of the partners and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth.
In addition to equipping the centers, a Training of Trainers (TOT) was conducted for 11 Trainers including 7 women. Over 2000 Youth in the 3 areas are expected to be reached through these centers. The project is ongoing and the next activities include setting up one of the centers to be accessible for the visually impaired, as well as conducting management training for the center managers and advanced IT TOT.
In addition, ICTDAR's SMEs Toolkit will also be made available with the associated training, to ultimately reach and benefit SME in the 3 areas.
